In memory of the 132 people who lost their lives and in recognition of the victims and their families, this series commemorates the 10th anniversary of the tragic event that took place in Paris on November 13, 2015. The series « Des Vivants » from France.tv Group tells the true story of seven hostages from the Bataclan terrorist attack.
France.tv Group was created in 1964 under the name of ORTF at the initiative of Georges Pompidou’s government. At its creation, it had a monopoly over television and radio in France with only two channels. Later on, it was divided into seven autonomous networks with three major TV channels: TF1, Antenne 2, and FR3, which later became France Télévisions in 1992. Today, France Télévisions is a public audiovisual group with many TV channels as well as websites. The group covers a wide range of subjects such as education, news, and French culture for adults, teenagers, and kids.
For the 10th anniversary of the November 13th terrorist attacks, the group released a series of documentaries, interviews, and mini-series about the event on their website, France.TV accessible to everyone for free. Among them, a semi-fictional documentary, Des Vivants composed of eight one-hour episodes, retracing the lives of 7 of the 11 Bataclan’s hostages. The series/documentary tells a true story through the performances of talented French actors such as Alix Poisson and Cédric Eeckhout, who bring the series to life. The program deeply moved the audience and raised strong emotions across France. It gives a clear understanding of the lives of the victims after the attacks, and especially how each of them deals with the trauma in a different way.
By sharing the true stories of the victims, the France.tv Group has encouraged national remembrance and commemoration for those who died. It not only shows the trauma the events caused but also the fact that the recovery process can be just as difficult, if not harder.
It is a transmission of culture, of history, but most importantly a duty to remember. The series also reflects the important role of public television in France in the preservation of a collective memory and the transmission historical events to younger generations. Through real audiovisual archives, interviews, and documentaries, France.tv gives the public access to a powerful testimony of the 13/11 events with a strong emotional impact.
In memory of all the lives France has lost and their families.
